High School Research Program (HSRP) (June 11 - August 17t, 2012)The purpose of HSRP is to afford academically talented high school sophomores and juniors the opportunity to participate in cutting-edge scientific research. The students pursue bench research under the direction of faculty mentors, and the goal is to develop an individualized program that can result in science fair projects and/or co-authorship of scholarly publications or abstracts. During the summer, high school students participate in a variety of activities for 10 weeks, including a weekly lecture series developed and administered by SPRD postdoctoral fellows, visits to M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, Veterinary Sciences Division and M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, and the Scientific Symposium, where students present a 10-minute talk describing their research results. Summer students are required to participate in all 10 weeks of the program, dedicating approximately 40 hours each week. A generous stipend is provided. Interested students can click on the online HSRP application in the drop down menu under "Student Activities." The 2012 summer research program will begin on June 11th and end on August 17th. **Currently, this program is limited to Texas students who live within a commutable distance to Smithville, Texas.
